Broadband and Wireless Networks

Computer networks for the home and small business can be built using either wired or wireless technology. Wired Ethernet has been the traditional choice in homes, but Wi-Fi wireless technologies are gaining ground fast. Both wired and wireless can claim advantages over the other; both represent viable options for home and other local area networks (LANs).

Below we compare wired and wireless networking in five key areas:

  • Ease of installation
  • Total cost
  • Reliability
  • Performance
  • Security

If you are having trouble installing broadband at your home or office we can help and assist you in troubleshooting the problem.

File and Printer Sharing

File and printer sharing is the ability of a computer running Windows to share a folder or attached printer with other computers on a network.

  • File sharing allows you to make files and folders in a shared folder accessible to others on the network to view, copy, or modify.

Example, with file sharing, you can store all of your documents on a central computer and share the folder that contains them.

  • Printer sharing allows you to make an attached printer available to other computer users on the network.

Example, a color printer is attached to a central computer in your home. You share the color printer. Then, from another computer attached to the same network as the computer to which the printer is attached, you can add the printer as a network printer and print to is as if it were locally attached.

Firewall Configurations

A firewall is simply a system designed to prevent unauthorized access to or from a private network. Firewalls can be implemented in both hardware and software, or a combination of both. Firewalls are frequently used to prevent unauthorized Internet users from accessing private networks connected to the Internet. All data entering or leaving the Intranet pass through the firewall.

Home Networking

If you want to share the internet around the house, share files between a laptop and another computer, we also can configure x box’s to your home network.

Network Installation & Repair

Computer network installation can be daunting but with a few guidelines you can install a good network at your home or office. Networking allows computers to share peripherals, and allows one computer to backup the data of another. We can assist you in

  • Planning

Virtual Private Networks (VPN)

Basically, a VPN is a private network that uses a public network (usually the Internet) to connect remote sites or users together. Instead of using a dedicated, real-world connection such as leased line, a VPN uses “virtual” connections routed through the Internet from the company’s private network to the remote site or employee.

A well-designed VPN can greatly benefit a company. For example, it can:

  • Extend geographic connectivity.
  • Improve security.
  • Reduce operational costs versus traditional WAN.
  • Reduce transit time and transportation costs for remote users.
